If you’re losing weight, are you thinking about what you’re losing?
A common goal sounds like:
“I want to lose 10 kg.”
Fair enough.
But imagine two different outcomes.
Person A
Loses 10 kg.
A significant portion comes from body fat, while they maintain much of their strength and lean mass.
Person B
Also loses 10 kg.
But they lose considerably more lean mass along the way and become weaker and less active.
Same number on the scale.
Very different outcomes.
That’s why weight loss shouldn’t be judged exclusively by body weight.
What can help support muscle?
There isn’t one magic solution.
It’s usually a combination of:
Adequate protein
Resistance training
Appropriate nutrition
Recovery
Consistency
For people using appetite-suppressing treatments such as GLP-1 medications, this conversation can become even more important because eating enough protein and total nutrition may become more difficult.
