Mainly a drop in strength and muscle fullness despite training consistently. I’m trying to work out whether it’s true muscle loss or just changes in body weight and recovery.
Most often this is due to fatigue, perhaps from a lack of sleep, stress, maybe overtraining. If you’re taking medication this can also be affecting things.
Poor sleep decreases insulin sensitivity, meaning the body requires more insulin to keep blood sugar under control. It also increases cortisol and hunger hormones while reducing fullness signals, leading to increased calorie intake and greater fat storage over time—especially around the abdomen.
GLP-1 medications are a tool, not a cure. Maintaining weight loss after stopping treatment depends on building sustainable habits—eating enough protein, staying physically active (especially resistance training), getting good sleep, managing stress, and having ongoing support. These strategies help preserve muscle, regulate appetite, and reduce the risk of weight regain.
When GLP-1 treatment is stopped, appetite and food cravings often return, while feelings of fullness decrease. Although metabolism doesn’t suddenly switch off, the body adapts to weight loss by burning fewer calories and promoting weight regain. Long-term success depends on maintaining healthy eating habits, regular exercise, preserving muscle mass, and ongoing lifestyle support.
The effects of peptides on the brain depend entirely on the specific peptide. Some regulate appetite, mood, memory, or hormone signalling, while others are being studied for potential cognitive or neuroprotective effects. Although some peptides have established medical uses, many are still experimental, and long-term safety data are limited. Any potential benefits should be weighed against possible side effects and discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
When prescribed and monitored appropriately, TRT and GLP-1 medications can be used together and may complement each other. As with any treatment, regular assessment and monitoring are important.
