Hi everyone This Is Nihaal,
I’ve recently started GLP-1 therapy, and I’m wondering how long people typically stay on it. Is it meant to be a short-term treatment until you reach your goal weight, or do most people continue taking it long-term?
If I stop taking GLP-1 after losing weight, is there a risk of regaining the weight? I’d love to understand how doctors decide when it’s appropriate to continue or discontinue treatment.
I’d really appreciate hearing from the BodyPower coaches and anyone who has been through this journey.
Hi! Thank you for your question.
The length of GLP-1 therapy is highly individual and should be determined in consultation with your healthcare provider. It depends on factors such as your health goals, weight-loss progress, metabolic health, and how well you respond to treatment.
Obesity is now widely recognized as a chronic disease, which means many individuals may benefit from long-term GLP-1 therapy to help maintain weight loss and reduce the risk of weight regain. For others, it may be appropriate to discontinue treatment as part of a structured plan that includes sustainable nutrition, regular physical activity, and ongoing lifestyle support.
The most important thing is never to stop GLP-1 therapy without medical guidance, as this may increase the likelihood of regaining lost weight.
Can you share how long you’ve been on GLP-1 therapy and what your current goals are? We’d be happy to help guide you further.
